How to Compare Carpet Cleaners

November 29th, 2009

Carpet cleaning  is one of those services that you really never know what your going get until it is too late. However, it does not have to that way. By taking a few steps in the beginning you can compare carpet cleaners. If you know what to ask about their cleaning method, pricing, and the services offered you can weed out the bottom of the barrel and choose between the best cleaners available.

The method of cleaning carpet that a carpet cleaner uses can make a huge difference in your results. Traditional steam cleaners are the most common cleaners you will find in your search. They use high pressure water to blow the dirt from the fiber and vacuum extraction to remove as much dirty water as possible.  Carpets tend to stay wet for several hours to several days with steam cleaning. Another method of cleaning is the dry compound method. A powder is sprinkled on the carpet and allowed to absorb soil. It is then vacuumed out of the carpet. The problem with this method is that it is hard to remove all the powder. Low moisture carpet cleaning tends to be the best method of carpet cleaning. Low moisture cleaners either use low pressure cleaning solutions and agitation in combination with vacuum extraction, or they use a bonnet method to achieve fast dry times.

Carpet cleaning prices should also be compared between cleaning companies. Most cleaners will either charge by the square foot or by the room. Square foot pricing is recommended because you only pay for the actual carpet being cleaned. If the cleaner offers a per room price just ask them what their square foot price would be. The average square foot price is around $.26.

Finally, ask the carpet cleaner what services are included in their pricing. Many quality cleaners will include everything in the price of their cleaning; however, some cleaners may charge extra for services such as pre-spraying heavily soiled areas. Most all carpet cleaners offer extra services such as protectant and deodorizers at an additional cost. Basic steps such as vacuuming and raking the carpet when finished should be included in the price.

So if you’re contemplating having your carpets cleaned you now know how to compare carpet cleaning costs. Remember to ask about their cleaning methods, determine their pricing structure, and ask what is included in the price of their cleaning. Follow this advice and you should be able to secure a great carpet cleaning.
